A tourist era of Novi Vinodolski started in 1878 when the first supports on sandy sea bottom of the port were built in order to provideplatforms for bathing. Very soon new bathing areas were built in nearby Lisanj where the first hotel was built. Afterwards, Novi developed into an attractive sanatorium and resort for Austrian, Hungarian and Czech guests.

Being situated in the north Adriatic region and protected from the open sea by the island of Krk, Novi Vinodolski has the most pleasant climate.
In this part of the Kvarner coastline, summer heats are moderated by pleasant and soothing winds. Sea dust combines with mountain breeze coming from woody hills of Velika Kapela.

From a historical point of view, Novi Vinodolski is a cultural and political center of what once was Vinodol Princedom. It is a “cradle of legislature” of Vinodol and a traditional wine growing area.
